The story of Givenchy’s Antigona Cube handbag

Givenchy celebrates its house icon, the Antigona, with a new handbag destined to enlist its own following. Presenting the Antigona Cube…
For almost two decades, Givenchy has elevated its many handbag collections to prominence. From daily tote bags to formal clutches, Givenchy designs will always have a special place in the wardrobes of modern women. Thanks in no small part to its exquisite craftsmanship and versatile designs, whenever Givenchy releases fresh handbag models, they instantly turn into cult favourites.
Among the many popular creations from Givenchy, one particular bag that has become a house icon since its debut in the French maison’s autumn/winter 2010 collection is the Antigona bag. This design comes with a rigid structure and architectural design, and like its many famous predecessors, the Antigona bag also achieved instant success in the fashion realm. Even fourteen years after its initial launch, it has remained the heart of the creations.
While demand for the Antigona has never wavered, fresh takes on the original design kept popping up in keeping the contemporary aesthetics. Four years ago, a soft version of the Antigona was unveiled. This version seamlessly melded the classical elements of the Antigona, sublimated with a more relaxed take. Subsequently towards the years, the Antigona was transformed into many new forms, from the Antigona Lock to the Antigona Stretch. And for the recent autumn 2024 season, Givenchy unveiled a new addition to the family: the Antigona Cube.
As its name implies, the Antigona Cube features a modular, symmetrical, three-dimensional shape, which – at a glance – looks like an ice cube. On the one hand, this new bag revisits the unique ladylike design of the previous Antigona models, especially the purity of line, sleek curves, crisp angles, and refined, studied architecture. At the same time, the Antigona Cube also stands out with its square form, which signifies a marked departure from the original trapezoid.
Another feature that makes the Antigona Cube distinct is the short, articulated double handles that allows pendular hand-carry. It is also accompanied by a removable and adjustable strap accentuated with four precious-finish D-rings, which instantly transforms its top-handle form into a hands-free crossbody bag that sits prettily at the hip. This versatility of wear further makes the bag a suitable companion for any time of day and any occasion.
Moreover, the Antigona Cube is crafted in an extended array of leather options and colourways. Fans of contemporary-looking bags can choose the glossy or crinkled leather version in silvery grey. More classically-minded ladies may want to go with the black or ivory glossy finish styles. In terms of size, the Antigona Cube are available in two sizes: Mini and Nano.
Though diminutive, the Antigona Cube is designed to hold a full complement of daily essentials. It boasts a generous zippered main compartment fitted with an inner card holder (for the Nano) or an inside flat pocket (for the Mini) to keep a wallet, keys, and phone. As a final flourish, the bag displays a signature triangle patch with Givenchy lettering.
The distinctive characteristics of the Antigona Cube once again become testaments to Givenchy’s unwavering passion for creating handbags that are not just attractively stylish and well-favoured, but are also timeless and sophisticated.
