Three different methods are used to colour dials: lacquering, electroplating, and PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition). Deep or vivid colours like black and white, as well as pink, turquoise, blue, and green, can be created with lacquering. Electroplating, meanwhile, creates metallic colours. Silver, champagne-colour, slate, and steel dials are all obtained via this method. Black dials are also created using electrochemical processes.

Lastly, there’s PVD processes, of which there are various variations. Essentially, the brass base plate of the dial is covered with incredibly thin layers of oxides, metal alloys, or nitrides using. This surface treatment makes it possible to create delicate and softer subtleties like pink, ice blue, and dark grey, along with characteristic Rolex tints like bright blue, chocolate, or olive green.

Additionally, some dials feature luxurious elements like mother-of-pearl, natural stones, or even meteorite pieces, showcasing Rolex’s commitment to using only the finest materials and adding to their distinctiveness and allure. This new version of the Perpetual 190 is crafted in 950 platinum and adorned with an ice blue dial featuring a guilloché rice-grain motif. This motif is distinctive for its three-dimensional geometric pattern that extends across the dial’s surface, starting from the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock. The minute track is also surrounded by a filet sauté motif with a crimped pattern, adding to the watch’s refined aesthetics.

Another unique example worth looking into are the two new reinterpretations of Rolex’ iconic Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona. Housed in 18 ct white gold cases, both timepieces radiate preciousness, featuring bezels encrusted with thirty-six brilliant-cut diamonds, another eight diamonds across its structure and three Chromalight hour markers.

Moreover, these new models also stand out due to their striking and subtle interplay of hues, each exuding a distinctive charm. The first version captivates with its Oyster bracelet, a black mother-of-pearl dial, and white mother-of-pearl counters. This colour combination is then reversed on the second watch which has an Oysterflex bracelet and a dial in white mother-of-pearl with chronograph counters in black mother-of-pearl.
