A weekend getaway at Park Hyatt Jakarta

A short while ago, Prestige Indonesia was invited to Park Hyatt Jakarta to celebrate the establishment’s second anniversary and experience sky-high luxury at the Park. Abdurrahman Karim reports.
Unveiled in mid-2022, Park Hyatt Jakarta marked the Park Hyatt brand’s first venture to Indonesia. The hotel adds to the roster of Hyatt Hotels’ properties in Jakarta, including Grand Hyatt Jakarta and Alila SCBD. And earlier this year in July, the establishment celebrated its two-year anniversary.
As Park Hyatt Jakarta celebrates its latest milestone, the establishment invitedPrestige Indonesia for a wonderful staycation, and to experience what’s in the store for the hotel’s guests…
As a brand, Park Hyatt reimagines luxury experiences with personalised service, impeccable culinary offerings, and renowned design in global cultural destinations. To properly embody the brand’s DNA, a perfect location was decided to house Park Hyatt Jakarta: the 37-storey Park Tower on Jl. Kebon Sirih. The spot allows for easy access to iconic attractions, including the 132-metre National Monument and the National Museum of Indonesia, as well as the city’s business districts.
In charge of the hotel’s contemporary design was Conran and Partners, who drew inspiration from Indonesia’s natural splendour. Mimicking the natural look of a rainforest, the overall colour scheme transitions vertically; while the lower levels embrace darker tones, the upper levels “closer to the sky” are rendered in a lighter neutral palette. Traditional crafts, including wedding headdresses from Kalimantan, are also showcased throughout the premises, paying tribute to the country’s rich cultural heritage.
There are 220 rooms and suites on the premises, divided into seven categories. In-room amenities include an LED TV with an integrated media hub, a spacious trembesi working desk, and smart curtains. Each room also features a marble bathroom that comes with a rain shower, a bathtub, and a Japanese washlet, complemented with a series of Bergamote 22 products by Le Labo.
I stayed in one of the hotel’s Park King rooms. Spanning 57 square metres, the unit is more spacious than the average entry-level room type in most five-star properties in Jakarta. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer expansive views of the city skyline or the National Monument. Ikat motifs are also present in the contemporary interior, bridging the country’s traditional and modern aesthetics. Interestingly, wooden panels that adorn the private quarters reminded me of ones commonly found in ryokans or traditional Japanese inns.
During my visit, I had a chance to explore the premises, including Park Hyatt Jakarta’s famed Diplomat Suite. The 228 square-metre corner suite boasts an open-plan layout, allowing for a seamless connection between the living, dining, and study areas. There is also a kitchenette and a personal gym, as well as a freestanding oversized tub in the bathroom.
Of course, the pinnacle of luxury here is represented by the Presidential Suite. The unit measures 300 square metres, nearly six times bigger than the Park King room. It features an expansive living area, a dining room seating eight, and a private VIP entrance. Adding to the list of amenities are a wet bar and a pantry stocked with alcoholic drinks.
Staying true to the Park Hyatt brand’s DNA, Park Hyatt Jakarta strives to provide luxury experiences with comfort akin to a personal residence. On that note, public spaces on the premises are named after the common rooms of a house – an aspect I found fascinating about the property.
The Library is a good case in point. Perched on the lobby level, the aptly named area features a collection of books and long tables, making it a perfect option for working, reading, or even holding small gatherings. High ceilings and large windows further create an airy atmosphere while allowing natural light to illuminate the space .
Adjacent to the Library is the Living Room. The sunlit venue invites guests to enjoy delectable dishes over intimate conversations and live music performances – the latter held every weekend.
The lobby level also houses the Bar, the ultimate destination for unwinding after a busy day. The elegant setting, with deep brown hues and ambient lighting, sets the tone for evening rendezvous or informal business gatherings. The space features a central circular bar and a bubble-like chandelier above it. Unfortunately, the bar was closed for maintenance during my stay.
Walking down the marble-clad curved stairs next to the Library, I arrived at the Dining Room, Park Hyatt Jakarta’s main dining outlet. The all-day restaurant serves authentic Indonesian and regional Italian dishes. In addition to a sumptuous buffet, guests can enjoy a selection of dishes from à la carte menu for breakfast. An exquisite brunch is also held here every Sunday. For special or more intimate occasions, there are a number of private and semi-private rooms.
Besides the aforementioned Dining Room and the Bar, Park Hyatt Jakarta has more to offer. Nestled on the 37th floor, KITA 喜多 Restaurant – quite literally – brings modern Japanese cuisine to new heights. The restaurant specialises in teppanyaki, robatayaki, and shabu-shabu while also serving tempura, sashimi, and sushi. It has nine private rooms, including the Tatami Room, for a more intimate experience. There is also an open kitchen where live cooking performances take place, bringing more fun to the table.
I visited the restaurant for a seven-course dinner and was seated in one of the restaurant’s semi-private rooms, which featured a live kitchen. The menu included Hokkaido Scallop, Pacific Black Cod Papillote, and Australian Wagyu M7, each a definite treat for the taste buds.
Following the dinner, I went to check KITA Bar. Situated one level below KITA 喜多 Restaurant, KITA Bar offers a visual and atmospheric departure from The Bar on the lobby level. In a way, it felt more like an actual living room than the aforementioned Living Room. Here, patrons can explore myriads of cocktails and various izakaya-inspired dishes while enjoying live DJ performances. For even more fun, guests can try various games. There is also an outdoor area blessed with views of the city and the monument.
At Park Hyatt Jakarta, wellness-related amenities and activities are concentrated on the 34th and 35th floors. There is a state-of-the-art gym featuring Technogym equipment and a studio for full-body workout programmes. Next to the gym is the members’ lounge, where guests can unwind, enjoy refreshments, or catch up with work après workout.
The hotel also boasts a series of water-based relaxation amenities, including a cold plunge pool, a hydrothermal pool, a floating pool, and a jet pool – my personal favourite. There is also a pair of heated loungers, which was another feature I liked. Completing the list of amenities are a steam room and a sauna with a salt fountain.
The main pool is another highly recommended facility to enjoy. Located just next to the gym, the pool is heated, making it perfect for a late afternoon or evening dip. There is also a sun deck where one can relax while daydreaming over magnificent city views. I revisited the pool area after dinner, only to realise that the atmosphere had changed: Above the pool, the timber-lined ceilings were illuminated by constellation-like lights, transforming it into a celestial scene.
To rejuvenate the mind and body, the SPA is the ultimate destination. Inspired by Indonesian healing traditions, the spa combines time-honoured relaxation techniques with exceptional products and cutting-edge technology to leave guests feeling renewed. Choose from an array of treatments, including The Signature Massage, The Spa Indonesian Rejuvenation, and Platinum Hydrafacial – the latter involves Vortex-Fusion technology to instantly fade wrinkles and fine lines.
Two years is probably not a long tenure for a hotel. However, Park Hyatt Jakarta shows that, in such a short timespan, the institution has been able to establish its status as a prominent property in Jakarta, which my stay can attest to. From crafts-decorated guest rooms and a sumptuous dinner to a star-studded pool, every moment of the stay was memorable.
More than just a prestigious address, the establishment is a home-away-from-home that connects the country’s storied past with its future. And as it writes a new chapter in its history, Park Hyatt Jakarta will continue to present inspiring experiences that pay homage to traditional values.
