August Escapes: four perfect hotels around the world

Whether you’re after a mountain retreat, a city escape, or a beachfront haven, we’ve selected four of the finest hotels worldwide.
Featuring 72 exclusive rooms and suites, Cheval Blanc Paris promises a decadent escape in elevated opulence. Managed by the LVMH Group, this riverfront establishment is housed within a historical building neighbouring the iconic La Samaritaine department store. For the hotel’s aesthetics, architect Peter Marino envisioned a design narrative that bridges Art Deco and contemporary Parisian chic as homage to French craftsmanship and savoir-faire. Highlights of the establishment include the Michelin-starred Le Tout-Paris restaurant, a 30-metre-long indoor pool, and a subterranean spa by Dior. Further enhancing guest experiences at Cheval Blanc Paris are dedicated butler service and scented amenities by François Demachy.
Twenty four years after the opening of its Hyde Park property, Mandarin Oriental unveiled the brand’s second hotel in England, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. Unlike its older sister, the institution boasts a modern façade that contrasts with the Georgian structures surrounding it. Inside, contemporary designs meld with Chinoiserie elements. This aesthetic then flows into the establishment’s 50 rooms and suites, as well as its 77 private residences. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, always a highlight at Mandarin Oriental properties, invites guests to slow down with inventive treatments. Meanwhile, award-winning chef Akira Back showcases his “greatest hits” at his eponymous restaurant.
A historical 17th century aristocratic palace on Via del Corso is now home to Palazzo Roma. Located just a stone’s throw away from Trevi Fountain, the hotel serves as an intersection between the city’s past and modern-day luxury. Inside the venue’s 39 individually-designed rooms and suites, coffered ceilings and original frescos are juxtaposed with modern furnishings, eclectic objets d’art, and a vibrant colour palette. Dining destinations on the premises include Core Restaurant, a bar, and a music lounge – the latter features busts of classical composers and a vintage Perzina piano.
Surrounded by various notable landmarks, Sanasaryan Han, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Istanbul marks The Luxury Collection brand’s debut in Turkey’s cultural capital. A time capsule in and of itself, the hotel is housed in an 1895 neo-classical structure. The 63 private quarters onsite feature a modern classic décor rendered in a palette of black and cream, complemented by turquoise accents. All rooms and suites also feature a hammam-inspired bathroom and a Turkish tea set. Meanwhile, local cuisine becomes the focal point at Sini, where guests can enjoy exquisite dining experiences.
