Review: Hilton Singapore Orchard the iconic hidden gem

Sitting at the junction of history and modernity, Hilton Singapore Orchard of fers a combination of prime location, a wealth of culture, and impactful programmes.
Recently, Prestige Indonesia paid a visit to Hilton Singapore Orchard, the largest Hilton hotel in Asia Pacific, and the group’s flagship property in Singapore. Last year, the luxury hotel added 446 new rooms across four new categories – namely the Deluxe Room, Deluxe City View Room, Panoramic Room, and the Deluxe Suite – to the hotel.
Now hosting a total of 1,080 rooms, including 60 suites across 13 categories and Arrival Lobby 294 Confirmed Connecting Rooms, the luxury property is perfectly equipped to take full advantage of its prime location at the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore’s iconic retail centre that has consistently been dubbed the top draw for tourists.
Hilton Singapore Orchard spared no expense to prepare the building for its launch in 2022. Following major renovations costing SGD 150 million, the hotel transformed an already renowned landmark into a bastion of luxurious elegance equipped to cater to all types of guests, from holiday goers to business travellers and more. At the same time, personalized service remains a major focus, as Hotel Manager Linda Reddy explained: “Having this many rooms doesn’t mean compromise in terms of our offering. We cater to various segments and retain that boutique hotel feel. We have a substantial number of team members dedicated to customer experience excellence. Whether it’s a traveling family, business or leisure travellers, solo travellers, we aim to touch each and every guest with what they are looking for exactly.”
When it comes to aesthetics, the property draws inspiration from the rich history of Orchard Road. As its name suggests, the now sprawling, fully-interconnected space of shopping arcades used to be a vast expanse of plantations. The grounds have seen multiple caretakers over the eras, including the British, the Peranakan community, plantation owners, and even the crème-dela-crème of early Singaporean high society who transformed what was the outskirts of the city into a suburban haven for the well-to-do. Each community added to the unique identity of the stretch until it eventually evolved into the Orchard Road we know and love today.
The Hilton group commissioned award-winning firm Avalon Collective to retell the story of Orchard Road onto the canvas that is Hilton Singapore Orchard’s premises. Botanical prints dominate the halls and guestrooms, telling stories of generations past. Dark wood intertwines with muted colours of grey and green. Mini-garden inspired concepts decorate passing spaces between areas of the hotel, evoking a constant sense of nostalgia of the ground’s past as a plantation.
Each guestroom is designed to retell history, blending past and present with a high-fashion aesthetic. The earthy furnishings pay homage to Orchard Road’s rich agricultural past, while modern features such as open-concept wardrobes and retail-inspired lighting honour its current status as a bustling shopping district.
On the dining front, Hilton Singapore Orchard has five restaurants and bars, affirming the hotel as a dining destination. Estate, a modern all-day dining buffet restaurant, offers elevated global and regional flavours inspired by Singapore’s historic residences. Ginger.Lily, a sophisticated lounge and bar with a botanical theme, is popular for its afternoon tea afternoon tea, craft cocktails, and artisanal cakes made with native herbs and flowers.
Osteria Mozza, the only Asian outpost of celebrated American Chef Nancy Silverton’s one-MICHELIN-starred restaurant from Los Angeles, serving Californian-Italian favourites from signature wood fired pizzas, homemade pastas, and more. Located on the top floor, Shinsen Hanten by Chen Kentaro is a one-MICHELIN-starred restaurant that specialises in Szechuan cuisine. Then there’s Chatterbox. Founded in 1971, it is an awardwinning restaurant renowned for its local Singaporean dishes, particularly the Mandarin Chicken Rice.
Once again underscoring its superior city-centre positioning, the hotel features 2,400 square metres of event facilities suitable for meetings, conferences, and events of all sizes. The hotel offers 16 versatile spaces, including two pillarless ballrooms. The elegant Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 900 guests, while the multi-tiered, amphitheatre-style Imperial Ballroom offers panoramic city views. Both ballrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art LED walls and advanced lighting and sound technologies, ensuring memorable event experiences. Smaller, more intimate meeting rooms and event spaces are found within the Smart Oasis and Smart Studio.
Guided by the Hilton values, the botanicallyinspired Hilton Singapore Orchard follows a strong philosophy of environmental sustainability. All rooms are equipped with energy-efficient innovations, including in-room motion sensors, air-conditioning, and light sensors, as well as modern conveniences like the Forest Stewardship Council-certified cherry wood keycards or opt for Digital Keys altogether, and a plethora of smartphone-connected services.
Further showcasing the hotel’s resolve to provide an eco-friendly guest experience, rooms are fitted with bulk bath amenities and glass bottled water, eliminating single-use plastics. Hilton Singapore Orchard is the first hotel in Singapore to have an onsite water filtration and bottling system, allowing it to produce up to 500 bottles of premium drinking water in reusable glass bottles per hour.
In closing, Linda affirmed the hotel’s commitment to creating positive impact. “We feel strongly about the impact we cause in the community that we serve,” she elaborates. “The various programmes showing our contributions range from donating items to needing schools, fitting the differently-abled within the teams, sourcing from local farmers, upcycling uniforms with Kloth, a Malaysian NGO, and many more initiatives.”
