AYANA is set to unveil SAKA Museum, Bali’s new cultural haven

The trailblazing integrated resort is introducing a visionary cultural centre poised to be a premier venue for a diverse range of events.
For years, AYANA has established itself as a leading luxury destination in Bali, promising inspiring stays through a myriad of experiences promoting personal enrichment. Since its birth in 1996, the name has evolved into a prominent integrated resort, consistently presenting game-changing initiatives in the global travel scene. Setting the bar ever higher for cultural tourism, AYANA is introducing its latest destination, SAKA Museum.
Set to officially open in 2024, the establishment will serve as a visionary cultural centre and an eminent event destination, reflecting AYANA’s dedication to preserving the heritage of Bali. Named after the Balinese Saka calendar, which harmonizes Hindu solar and lunar cycles for religious and ceremonial activities, the museum strives to connect Bali’s past, present, and future. The design echoes this mission, seamlessly blending modernity with traditional Balinese charm. Its interior is the brainchild of Hong Kong-based multi-award-winning firm Napp Studio & Architects.
Offering extensive indoor and outdoor spaces, it will serve as a premier venue for a diverse range of events. For one, the East Gallery on the first floor accommodates up to 300 guests, making a perfect indoor space for special occasions, from weddings to corporate gatherings. Those seeking an idyllic outdoor space can opt for the SAKA Garden on the second level. Suitable for events with up to 400 attendees, the garden features a floating stage arrangement and is blessed with lush gardens and sunset views. Inclusivity is also ensured through wheelchair-friendly features, including elevators and accessible toilets. In addition, the museum has a VIP room for private events, as well as a shop and a cafe.
SAKA Museum has collaborated with Balinese artists and communities to create ogoh-ogoh for its inaugural exhibition. These gigantic creations are usually paraded through the streets during Nyepi or Balinese Day of Silence – an important date on the Saka calendar. Nine neighbourhood groups or banjar and young talents participated in the exhibition, while Cultural Innovator Marlowe Bandem oversaw its development. In addition, the year 2024 will see the museum’s permanent collection, curated by a committee of researchers, experts, and collectors under the helm of gallerist-historian Bruce Carpenter.
Giordano Faggioli, General Manager of AYANA Resort, eagerly anticipates extending a warm welcome to guests celebrating special occasions at the new event venue. “Through SAKA Museum, AYANA seeks to make a substantial impact on the Balinese community that has been a source of abundant blessings for the AYANA family,” Faggioli says. “We look forward to welcoming our guests celebrating their unforgettable occasions at our newest event venue.”
All in all, SAKA Museum is poised to stand as a paramount hub for celebrating the island’s artistic and philosophical expressions. With the launch of SAKA Museum, AYANA seeks to expand its support for the Balinese community while providing visitors with deeper insights into the island’s living heritage. Prior to the museum’s opening, guests staying at any property within the vast AYANA Estate can schedule their visit to the museum for free via AYANA web app. From October 1 onwards, private visits can also be arranged by contacting rsvp@sakamuseum.org.
