Roche Bobois’ Plantine collection brings Rome into your home

Roche Bobois’ Palatine collection in walnut wood and travertine is a touch of Rome for the modern dining room.
The dining room is the beating heart of a home. It’s where we tuck into sustenance, connect with family at the end of the day, tell stories and turn acquaintances into friends.
In this space, the dining table is the centrepiece and French furniture house Roche Bobois has just introduced one of the most elegant pieces to complement the sophisticated home. The Palatine table is from a collection designed by Parisian sartorial savant Christophe Delcourt in his third collaboration with the luxury furniture company in its 64-year history.
With a name that references Roman nobility, Palatine echoes Delcourt’s earlier works for Roche Bobois, with lines that are as clean and calculated as his inaugural Rive Droite collection in 2002 and a deference for natural materials exemplified by his eco-forward Legend bookcase in 2005. Delcourt’s latest coup is a romantic expression of Italian architecture, expressed by a marriage between luxurious walnut wood and the rugged beauty of travertine, a stone used by the ancient Romans for their construction work.
The two materials interlock in the Palatine dining table, with Canaletto walnut providing the surface and bridging bars to the travertine’s two pillar legs that recall the columns of Roman buildings. The placement of the materials is mainly reversed in the Palatine sideboard, which bears a travertine top, legs and decorative insert supporting a Canaletto walnut structure and shelves. Both materials are natural, with grain and texture that are luxurious to the touch. Used in furniture, they add warmth and earthiness to the modern home.
A dining room set is not complete without chairs. To complement the Palatine dining table, Roche Bobois’ curvilinear upholstered armchairs designed by fellow French designer Cedric Ragot provide sculptural beauty while maintaining the modern sensibility of the Palatine set.
