The seventh edition of ArtMoments Jakarta is set to unfold from August 9 to 11, 2024, featuring extensive international collaboration under the theme “Renewal”
ArtMoments Jakarta 2024 is set to return in grand style, captivating new art enthusiasts and seasoned collectors alike with a much-anticipated exhibition at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel. Running from August 9 to 11, 2024, the event will kick off with an exclusive VIP preview on August 9. This year’s theme will address themes of personal growth, social reform, cultural revitalization, technological advancement, and environmental sustainability.
Artistic Moments
This major cultural event will act as an international forum with artists from thirty different nations participating and showcasing a wide range of works. With the help of ArtMoments Jakarta, galleries and artists can interact with a larger audience and raise awareness of modern, contemporary, and media art.
The fair will also include an art tour, after-hour events, including a particularly interesting highlight called ArtWonder. This will be a collaboration showcasing new media art highlighting the cutting-edge spirit of contemporary artists.
There will be a series of thought-provoking programmes and expert speakers discussing topics such as “The Challenge of Media Art Ownership,” “The Relevance of Curatorial Direction in Building Your Art Collection,” “Create Legacy with Your Art Collection,” “Portrait of S. Sudjojono,” “Up Close and Personal,” “The Joy and Risk of Art Collection,” and “RENEWAL: Seni Hari Ini dan Masa Depan.” Of course, these programmes allow for numerous networking opportunities as well. There will also be a charity auction in collaboration with the S. Sudjojono Center.
Moreover, Heri Dono, an internationally recognised contemporary and media artist, will make a breathtaking opening act for the event. He has been making waves in the international art scene since the early 1990s through his critique of the New Order government with a visual interpretation of poetry through dance motions paired with artwork featuring ducks.
In Indonesian art history, Heri Dono is a symbol of progressive renewal who combined non-Western viewpoints with traditional values. According to Sudjud Dartanto, ArtMoments Jakarta 2024’s new artistic director: “This offers a fresh perspective in tying the past, present, and future together.”
Sendy Widjaja: Power of perspective
Modern art has always been revolutionary to Sendy Widjaja, Co-Founder and Fair Director of ArtMoments Jakarta. Sendy’s artistic journey is deeply intertwined with his family’s long-standing connection to creativity and culture. His grandmother ran one of Indonesia’s first cinemas in Pontianak during the 1930s, and in the 1980s, his uncle established the country’s first major art gallery, Art:1.
Growing up among art events and exhibits, Sendy developed a natural appreciation for artistic expression. This passion flourished when he joined ArtMoments Jakarta in 2018 as the fair’s operational director. Following the passing of the original founder, Leo Silitonga, in 2022, Sendy stepped up to lead the fair, introducing innovative approaches such as Indonesia’s first hybrid art fair and a unique hotel room art fair.
Sendy’s curatorial style at ArtMoments Jakarta 2024 is influenced by his understanding of human behaviour and the psychology of success. He evaluates not only the artistic quality of works but also the readiness of artists for advancement, ensuring they are prepared for opportunities and can sustain their success.
