Sanlorenzo showcases the work of Li Qing at Art Basel Hong Kong

Highlighting the connection between the artist and the shipyard, the Sanlorenzo Arts project dissected the relationship between humanity and nature.
Sanlorenzo Arts continues to navigate the complexity of modern life by collaborating with Shanghai artist Li Qing at modern and contemporary art fair, Art Basel Hong Kong, back in March. The artwork reflects the synergy of humanity and nature through the study and different perspectives of the lighthouse form.
Entitled “Landscape with Lighthouses”, a window salvaged from an old Hong Kong building forms the basis of the artwork as it frames geometrical panels in the shape of a pinwheel superimposed to reproduce the harbour. Diverse aesthetics and architecture of the sea, order, and surrounding landscape are portrayed anti-linearly through the grid of the window.
At the centre of the artwork is a lighthouse reminiscent of the entrance to Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour. The narration of the modelling depicts the relationship between industrial rationality and nature, with the lighthouse standing between the two as a unit with which the two worlds are measured against.
Modern interpretations propose a dualism approach where futuristic, utopian, vertiginous architecture is traced by the geometry of the wooden structures. Geometric sensibilities outline the macro-spatial perceptions of the city and nature, constantly forming symbiotic interactions with one another.
Li Qing’s work is part of the study initiated by Sanlorenzo through the arts and projected into the future. This ongoing enquiry has led the shipyard to create Sanlorenzo Arts, an interactive collection of works and projects spanning the most important themes of everyday life: sustainability, the environment, technology, nature, the sea and, above all, mankind, are addressed in original and resourceful ways, thanks to the sensitivity of artists, designers, architects and creative people.
As the world’s first monobrand shipyard producing yachts and superyachts, Sanlorenzo’s tendency towards innovation has the company leading this industry for more than 60 years. The company further adopts new creative languages and connection to the world of art through Sanlorenzo Arts, an active and interactive medium for projects related to these elements. This movement effectively marks an outstanding achievement for the shipyard as the first of its kind in the world to actively engage in promoting and disseminating contemporary art.
