All the Information You Require to Understand Design Week 2024 Knowledge

From June 25 to June 27, 2024, Knowledge of Design Week (KODW) will take place annually. Presents Inter/Section: Crafting Tomorrow’s Design is the theme that will introduce speakers and moderators from around the globe to Hong Kong’s potential future design path.
In this 3-day event, over thirty forums, workshops, and masterclasses will be held at the W Hong Kong, K11 Musea, and M+. Hosted by industry experts and creative leaders from various disciplines, the sharing will focus on the fusion of aesthetics, technology, and utility of design between East and West. As the partner country of KODW 2024, France also sent artisan speakers to add unique strength of French craftsmanship to their discussions.
We have handpicked six highlighting speakers that you should look out for at Knowledge of Design Week 2024.
Nathalie Crinière is the creative director of Agence AC in Paris. She is a renowned master in scenography, interior design and other design disciplines. In the keynote forum Scenography Unveiled: The Art of Inter/Section on 25 June, the secret behind her integrations of interior, multimedia, and graphic design in project design will be revealed.
She will also join the Panel Forum with Laurent Ungerer, the founder and CEO of c-album, to discuss Crafting Aesthetics in Exhibition and Curation Design.
Penelope Luk is the founding member and spokesperson of the non-profit Charitable organization Craft on Peel in Hong Kong. She has played a pivotal role in the organization to support the development of traditional aircraft and artisans in the modern artistic context.
On 25 June, she will participate in the panel forum Craftsmanship: A ‘Glocal’ Perspective with Olivier Segura, the managing director of L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, to share relevant ideas with her knowledge of heritage crafts.
Dannis Chan is the founder and creative director of fine jewellery brand Qeelin. Chan aims to bring a contemporary viewpoint to Chinese art, creating artistic and iconic pieces, bringing the best of the mainland to the world.
In his keynote forum, Inter/Section of Cultures: The Qeelin Perspective of East Meets West on 25 June, Chen will elaborate on how his modern designs have playfully reinterpreted oriental symbolism, explored between East and West, tradition and modernity, and finally brought customers surprises beyond jewelry.
Calvin Sio, the entrepreneur and product designer of Zence Object Technology and Chazence Visionary from Macau, is known for finding sustainable ways to design products. In one of his current ventures Chazence, he and his team have successfully recycled tea waste into washable and biodegradable materials for packaging, product manufacturing and construction.
In the power talk forum Tea Beyond the Cup: Sustainable Solutions Across Industries on 26 June, he will share his transformative vision dedicated to the sustainable design journey rooted in the world of tea.
Dong Gong, the founder of Vector Architects and a Foreign Member of the French Academy of Architecture, has designed renowned architecture including the Renovation of the Captain’s House and Changjiang Art Museum.
From his keynote forum New into Old: Transforming the Built Environment and Masterclass Building the Shape of Time on 26 June, Gong will share the application of his design philosophy, blending modern elements with traditional architectural components into the modernisation of Chinese cities.
Lex Pott is the founder and designer of LEX POTT from the Netherlands. He is known for using raw and intuitive design techniques.
From his workshop Paper Exploration: The Power of a Design Mindset and keynote forum Rediscovering Material’s Essence with Lex Pott, and panel forum Craftsmanship as a Design Language in Furniture and Product on 26 June, Pott will guide participants to discover the foundation and essence of basic materials as the core of design. He will also share insights of his design process using multiple approaches to integrate craftsmanship into business.
