It wasn’t long ago when the world was caught in the Olympics fever. Now, Paris sees another multi-sports meet, this time in the form of the Paralympics 2024. The Paralympics are of utmost importance because of their focus on inclusivity. And the participation of 169 nations underlines its magnanimity.

At the Paralympic Games, Malaysia is one of the veterans, having participated in 10 editions to date. The Paris-based event will be our 11th appearance.
The athletes in contention this year will attempt to add to our rich tally of medals at the quadrennial sports meet. For context, we have won 16 medals so far — six gold, four silver and six bronze. Our first gold medal came in 2016 through the hands of Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi in the men’s 100m T36 sprint category.
For the unversed, the T36 category is specifically designed for ambulant athletes with cerebral palsy.

According to reports, the Paralympic Council Malaysia, under the Sports Victory Prize Scheme (SHAKAM), has announced the following prize money structure for the Malaysian medallists at the Paris Paralympics 2024:
The amounts are almost identical to what the Malaysian medal-winning athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024 received.
However, the parathletes will also be eligible for a lifelong salary. Here is a look at these amounts:
Additionally, Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin, president of the Paralympic Council Malaysia, announced that three companies have pledged to provide monetary incentives to the Malaysian medallists at the Paralympics 2024. The names of these companies, however, remain undisclosed.
So how much will each company pay to the medal winners?
In effect, this means that a Malaysian parathlete will take home MYR 60,000 apart from the prize money of MYR 1 million and the lifelong monthly salary of MYR 5,135 for winning a gold medal at the Paralympics 2024. Similarly, the silver medallists will receive MYR 30,000 as incentives, while the bronze medal winners will pocket MYR 15,000.

According to the International Paralympic Committee, Reddentes Sports is the official broadcaster of the Paris Paralympics 2024 in 13 Asian countries, including Malaysia.
In addition, the event will be broadcast in Malaysia by RTM.
