The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok Set to Open in 2026

The Langham Hotels & Resorts is preparing to enhance Bangkok’s vibrant hospitality landscape with a new luxury hotel at the historic Old Customs House on the Chao Phraya River. A fusion of past and present, the luxury property will embrace the rich heritage of Siam while offering all the sophistication and glamour famously associated with the renowned hotel brand.
Since the opening of its flagship property in London in 1865, The Langham Hotels & Resorts has built on its distinctive British heritage to deliver exceptional hospitality experiences with a playful touch in key destinations across the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and Asia Pacific. Each property reflects the hotel brand’s rich 150-year legacy through inspiring design, cutting-edge innovation, and a steadfast commitment to creating memorable experiences.
During a recent event, The Langham Hotels & Resorts announced the anticipated 2026 opening of The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok, developed in partnership with Rabbit Holdings, an affiliate of BTS Group. Situated in Bangkok’s Bang Rak district, the hotel will occupy a complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and its focal point will be the historic Customs House, which is in the process of being meticulously restored to its original splendour. On the same site, a former post office will also be transformed to offer several luxurious amenities, while the hotel’s sprawling guestrooms will be tucked within a new contemporary building.
Built in 1888, the Customs House embodies exceptional craftsmanship with its neo-Palladian design by famed architect Joachim Grassi. Once a prominent entry point to Thailand, the building has a rich history, including being the setting for events hosted by the royal family, including celebrating the return of HM King Rama V from his travels in Europe. Its signature teak floors, eye-catching grand central staircase, and striking four-storey hallway all highlight its historical importance.
Speaking about the new property, Kavin Kanjanapas, Director of Rabbit Holdings, stated: “We are thrilled to appoint Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) to manage the property. The company’s dedication to creating timeless luxury hotels and demonstrated success in heritage conservation makes it the ideal partner to further our vision to set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the region and honour the rich cultural heritage of Customs House and the Bang Rak District.”
The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok continues LHG’s legacy of heritage conservation with notable projects such as The Langham, Boston (located within the walls of a former Federal Reserve Bank), The Langham, Chicago (inside the iconic Mies van der Rohe building), and The Langham, Pasadena (a former historic Hollywood property that dates back to 1907). In addition to its Bangkok venture, LHG is also developing a new project in Venice, Italy, focused on restoring a historic glass factory on Murano Island.
Bob van den Oord, LHG Chief Executive Officer, also expressed his excitement at the development of The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok: “[The hotel] exemplifies our strategy of incorporating cultural preservation into hotel development while concurrently creating unparalleled experiences for guests and the communities in which we operate.”
The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok is set to feature signature elements that epitomise The Langham’s renowned approach to five-star hospitality. Highlights will include an outpost of The Langham, Hong Kong’s three Michelin-star Cantonese restaurant, T’ang Court, a unique destination bar, and an outlet dedicated to serving world-class pastries. Guests will also be able to enjoy rejuvenating treatments at Chuan Spa, The Langham’s renowned wellness retreat.
In regard to its overall design, The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok will celebrate the Renaissance era of Siam by fusing together traditional Thai elements with the building’s distinctive European-inpired architectural style. This sophisticated blend will be evident throughout the hotel, encompassing the guestrooms, river-view ballrooms, spa, and common areas.
LHG and Rabbit Holdings both reaffirmed a commitment to preserving the building’s historic charm through meticulous restoration, integrating contemporary design and state-of-the-art amenities to offer guests a unique experience that honours both the landmark’s rich history and exciting future.
