The Gumball 3000 Rally is Rolling Through Southeast Asia – and Stopping in Thailand Along the Way!

This annual international rally, featuring “supercars and superstars”, marks its milestone 25th anniversary in September of this year. To celebrate, organizers have planned a spectacular journey across five countries in Southeast Asia, including Thailand.
The annual Gumball 3000 Rally, founded in 1999 by British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper, has taken thousands of “supercars and superstars” on epic journeys across the globe, in turn creating one of the ultimate bucket list experiences for those who truly love being behind the wheel of exceptional cars. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this epic, one-of-a-kind event, and the organisers have planned a spectacular journey in September across five countries in Southeast Asia, including Thailand.
More of a road trip than an actual race, the event typically spans 3,000 miles (hence the name), across multiple countries over seven days, and attracts a mix of celebrities and car enthusiasts driving custom classics and exotic supercars. Since its inception, numerous renowned actors, artists, and athletes have participated in the rally, such as David Hasselhoff, Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba, Lewis Hamilton, French Montana, Afrojack, and Tony Hawk, among others.
To commemorate the rally’s milestone 25th anniversary this year, participants will embark on a spectacular tour across five Southeast Asian countries, starting in Vietnam, and continuing through Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and finally Singapore. Over 250 car enthusiasts and 100 cars will traverse some of the most scenic and culturally rich places in the region, making stops along the way for events, parties, and exhibitions.
As of the time of publication, several locations have already been confirmed, with further details of the race routes expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Confirmed stops so far include Lê Lợi Boulevard in Saigon (September 14-15), Wat Botum Park in Phnom Penh (September 15), and Angkor Wat in Siem Reap (September 16). This ultra-exciting edition of the rally promises to be a vibrant celebration of both automotive passion and the legacy of Gumball 3000.
Interestingly, this year marks the second time Thailand has been part of the rally route – the first time was in 2006. Back then, the Gumball experience took drivers through Bangkok and Phuket, alongside a host of European and North American cities that included London, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the proposed route for 2024 will pass through 15 provinces in the kingdom (from September 17-19), including Bangkok, Sa Kaeo, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Krabi, Phang Nga, Trang, and Satun. On September 17, there will be an exclusive showcase at CentralWorld in Bangkok for those interested in seeing these incredible luxury automobiles up close.
On September 22, the rally will finish in Singapore, where participants will then attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Interested spectators can witness the rally along the routes for free or follow the action via online streaming.
While the Gumball 3000 Rally focuses on supercars driven by superstars, it is also a lifestyle event that merges luxury, entertainment, and philanthropy. Participants and spectators alike can expect an unforgettable journey that celebrates not only the thrill of driving, but also the unique cultural experiences of the regions these automobiles will pass through. Needless to say, the 2024 edition of Gumball 3000 will be a fitting tribute to 25 years of adventure, camaraderie, and global exploration.
