Robert Wun’s Homecoming: A Couture Spectacle at CENTRESTAGE 2024

In a groundbreaking fusion of fashion and heritage, fashion designer Robert Wun is set to astonish Hong Kong with a spectacular homecoming show at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, kicking off CENTRESTAGE 2024 in grand style.
Robert Wun, the first Hong Kong designer to showcase at Paris Fashion Week, is making a triumphant return to his roots with a headline-grabbing fashion show that promises to be as much a cultural event as a sartorial one. Set against the backdrop of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Wun’s show will mark the opening of CENTRESTAGE 2024, Asia’s premier fashion event organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA).
The CENTRESTAGE ELITES show, scheduled for September 3, will be a historic first for the Hong Kong Palace Museum, transforming its iconic crimson doors into a portal to high fashion. Wun’s collection, titled “Home”, will celebrate his brand’s 10th anniversary and serve as a heartfelt tribute to the city that shaped his dreams.
“My dream of becoming a fashion designer started in Hong Kong,” Wun shared. “Returning to present my collection here revives memories of the past decade – my experiences, persistence and reminiscences. Hong Kong has profoundly influenced me, fuelling my passion and drive. As I celebrate my brand’s 10th anniversary, I possess a sense of gratitude for my home. This felt like the perfect moment to return and host this show, incorporating elements that Hongkongers would relate to.” His new collection draws inspiration from the resilience of Hong Kong women, blending cultural elements with influences from local music, television and cinema.
Wun’s journey from a London College of Fashion graduate to a globally recognised designer is nothing short of inspiring. Discovered by Joyce Boutique in 2012, he launched his brand in 2014. His accolades include being named one of Fashion Asia Hong Kong’s 10 Asian Designers to Watch in 2020 and receiving the ANDAM Fashion Awards Prix Spécial in 2022.
In January 2023, Wun made his Paris Fashion Week debut, receiving strong support from CHANEL President Bruno Pavlovsky. This pivotal moment saw him unveil his first haute couture collection at the closing fashion show, further cementing his status in the international fashion scene. The designer’s creations have graced international celebrities like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Celine Dion. His versatility extends beyond the runway, having designed for the Royal Ballet, “The Hunger Games” film and a commercial directed by Wong Kar-Wai.
CENTRESTAGE 2024, running from September 4 to 7 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will continue to serve as a launchpad for global designer brand and new products in the region. The event will feature a diverse program including fashion shows, seminars, networking activities and showcases by young Hong Kong designers.
Fashion enthusiasts and industry professionals alike can look forward to Wun’s masterclass on September 5, where he will share insights from his remarkable journey. Stay tuned for more updates and highlights from Centrestage but Robert Wun and his show is a promising start to an unforgettable celebration of fashion and Hong Kong’s creative spirit.
