Petal to the Metal: New Floral Jewellery for May 2024

I can just about hear it now … “Florals in spring?” But as the sun warms the ground underneath our feet and flowers being to bloom, we can’t help feeling a bit inspired. And if truth be told, so too are these jewellery maisons, who have taken to celebrating springtime to the next level with their intricate designs and precious stones.
Miranda Priestly and her acolytes may have us believe there’s nothing ground-breaking about florals in spring, but what delights us then, now and forever is the very fact that spring heralds the arrival of a new cycle, new growth and new blooms. Perhaps the maison that knows and celebrates this best is Van Cleef & Arpels, which has added new floral jewellery pieces to its radiant Frivole collection – just in time for the new season.
Blooms of all kind capture the attention of artisanal fine-jewellery designer Basak Baykal, who fuses modern design with traditional know-how from the Grand Bazaar to form floral works of art. Here, sunny mimosa flowers are rendered in precious stones to form a pair of stunning drop earrings.
Flowers are nothing new in jewellery, but what’s exciting is how they’re re-interpreted time and time again – and in the most delightful creations. At Buccellati, the Centaurea necklace is a beautiful bib of sky-blue and verdant blooms woven between small yellow-gold branches and white-gold leaves, painting a picture of an abundant and
thriving nature.
Amazonite, with its minty blue-green hue and captivating translucency, has made its vibrant debut in the Louis Vuitton Colour Blossom Collection. This is floral jewellery for the fashion set.
The Ancient Romans loved flowers, regarding them as symbols of joy and spontaneity – and the Fiorever collection is Bvlgari’s tribute to the blooms of the Eternal City. These white diamond floral jewellery pieces are still daringly bold and recognisably Bvlgari, with an open-worked, four-petalled design that speaks volumes about the Roman jeweller’s know-how and creativity.
Where best to see flowers in New York? Why, Central Park, of course. Which is where Harry Winston has drawn inspiration for its 2024 New York Collection. A fresh perspective on nature as inspiration, the wonderfully geometric jewellery designs feature diamonds and emeralds that evoke the city’s beloved green lungs.
